Supporting community football in Oak Flats for over 50 years
Oak Flats Junior Soccer Club has always been more than a sports club. For five decades, it has been a gathering place for families, a safe and friendly home for emerging young players, and a space where children can learn teamwork, resilience and confidence — all while having fun. The heart of the club has never been its wins or ladder positions; it has always been the people who show up, help out and make football accessible for every child who wants to play.
This page is here to welcome anyone who wants to get involved — whether you’re a parent looking to volunteer or a local business wanting to support grassroots sport. Your contribution, no matter the size, helps keep the club strong for the next generation.
Why volunteers matter
Our club simply doesn’t run without volunteers. Every game played, every field set up and every child who takes the pitch relies on someone donating their time. Volunteers are the backbone of community football — the quiet heroes who make sure our young players have a positive experience week after week.
At Oak Flats, volunteers support everything from coaching to canteen work, registration days, uniform organisation, social events, fundraising and general club operations. These jobs might seem small on their own, but together they create a club culture built on care, connection and teamwork.
You don’t need experience. You don’t need a big time commitment. You just need a willingness to help out when you can. Some volunteers help once a year, others once a month, and some take on bigger roles — every contribution is appreciated. Kids notice when their community shows up for them, and volunteering is one of the simplest ways to support their growth, confidence and enjoyment of sport.
What volunteering looks like at OFJSC
Volunteering at Oak Flats is designed to be flexible and approachable. Many parents start by helping with small tasks — setting up a field, handing out oranges, or jumping on the BBQ — and grow from there. Others prefer behind-the-scenes help such as organising equipment or communicating with families.
Coaches and team managers play a particularly important role, helping create an environment where kids feel encouraged, safe and excited to come to training each week. Coaching isn’t about being an expert player — it’s about teaching the basics, encouraging teamwork and making sure every child feels included. Managers help keep the team organised so parents and kids know where to be and when.
The canteen is another essential part of the club. A couple of hours helping serve families or cook sausages makes a big difference to the club’s fundraising and to our ability to keep registration costs affordable.
Game-day volunteers help mark fields, move goals, assist with equipment and support general match operations. These roles are perfect for people who want to help without taking on an ongoing commitment.
There’s also room for anyone who wants to join the committee or support club operations more deeply. The committee is made up of volunteers who care about keeping football fun, accessible and community-focused, and new voices are always welcomed.
How you can volunteer at OFJSC
Whether you’ve got 30 minutes or 3 hours a week, we’ve got a role for you. Some of the ways you can help:
- Coach or Manage a Team – we provide support, gear, and guidance
- Run the Canteen – even one shift per season makes a difference
- Help with BBQs & Fundraising – great for social types who love a sausage sizzle
- Join the Committee – lend your voice to the decisions that shape the club
- Event Help – setup, pack down, presentations, you name it!
All volunteers must have a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC).
If you’re coaching, managing or regularly involved, we’ll guide you through how to submit your details.

Why volunteering benefits you too
While volunteering supports the club, it also gives back in ways people don’t always expect. It connects you with families across Oak Flats, Shellharbour and surrounding suburbs. It strengthens your involvement in your children’s sporting life and shows them the value of community contribution. It helps build friendships and creates a sense of belonging that is harder to find in bigger, more competitive clubs.
Many volunteers discover new skills, whether it’s coaching, communication, leadership or simply the confidence that comes from stepping into something new. Above all, volunteering makes you an active part of a community that genuinely cares, and it gives you the satisfaction of knowing you’re helping local kids create memories that will stay with them for life.
Volunteering also helps keep fees low for families and ensures our club stays accessible and fun for everyone.
Sponsorship at Oak Flats Junior Soccer Club
Sponsorship is one of the most impactful ways local businesses can support young people in the Oak Flats and Shellharbour region. Unlike large commercial clubs, we rely heavily on community generosity to keep playing costs affordable, maintain equipment and support volunteers. Sponsorship dollars go directly back into the club, helping us improve facilities, purchase gear and offer a better experience for players and families.
Local businesses that sponsor OFJSC play a vital role in strengthening grassroots sport. Your brand becomes part of a long-standing community tradition, and your support is visible to hundreds of families across training sessions, weekend matches and club events. Sponsorship isn’t just advertising — it’s a genuine contribution to the wellbeing and growth of local children..
Benefits for Sponsors
Sponsoring the club puts your business directly in front of a highly engaged local audience. Families notice and appreciate businesses that support community sport, and this goodwill strengthens your connection with customers across Oak Flats, Shellharbour, Mount Warrigal, Albion Park and the wider South Coast.
Businesses enjoy increased visibility through signage at games, jersey branding, digital mentions, social media posts and website features. Supporting the club also positions your business as a community-minded organisation, which builds trust and loyalty with local families.
Whether your business is small, medium or large, sponsorship packages are flexible and designed to suit different budgets and levels of exposure.
Sponsorship options
We offer a range of sponsorship opportunities designed to help businesses contribute in a way that aligns with their goals. Options can include jersey sponsorship, field signage, equipment contributions, event sponsorship or digital sponsorship through our website and social channels. Every sponsor receives public thanks and recognition from the club, and we work closely with each business to ensure the partnership feels valuable and appreciated.
If you’re interested in becoming a sponsor, we can provide a sponsorship prospectus or have a committee member reach out to discuss options that best suit your business.
