Frequently Asked Questions
Got a question? You’re not the only one.
Here are some of the most common questions we get asked at Oak Flats JSC. If you can’t find what you need here, feel free to reach out via Facebook.
Getting started
What age can my child start playing?
Children can begin in the Under 6s if they are turning five at any time during the calendar year. We offer teams all the way through to Under 18s.
What age group should my child register for?
Players register for the age group they turn during the calendar year. For example, if your child turns 9 this year, they will play in Under 9s.
Can my child play up an age group?
This may be approved on a case-by-case basis, depending on player ability and team numbers. Please contact the Registrar at registrar@ofjsc.com.au if you wish to apply.
Season information
When is the season?
The winter football season typically runs from March to August. Training may start earlier depending on your team and coach. Dates such as registration opening, team formation and Presentation Day are shared on our Facebook page and Registration page.
What day are games played?
Most games are held on Saturday mornings. Older competition age groups (U12–U18) may play on Friday nights, Saturdays or Sundays, depending on the Football South Coast draw.
Where can I find the draw/fixtures?
All fixtures are published on Dribl. Search for Oak Flats JSC and select your team to view upcoming games.
What happens if it rains on game day?
Shellharbour council determines ground closures for Oak Flats Junior Soccer Club. Council will check the grounds the day before a scheduled game to determine if the game can go ahead. We will notify players and their parents/guardians as soon as we are made aware of any changes to field conditions. We will notify you either through:
- Dribl
- Our club Facebook page
Unless a ground is officially closed which you can check the status of our home fields at the top of the homepage, games usually still go ahead.
Training & Teams
Where is training held?
All training takes place at Panorama Oval (Shane Lee Field) in Oak Flats.
When is training?
Each team trains on a weeknight. The coach selects the day and time once teams are finalised. Older teams may train twice a week depending on coach availability.
Can my child play with their friends?
In MiniRoos (U6–U11), we do our best to group friends and schoolmates together.
From U12 upwards, grading rules apply and teams are formed based on ability to ensure fair competition.
Do MiniRoos teams keep score?
No. MiniRoos (U6–U11) is non-competitive. Scores aren’t officially recorded and there are no ladders. The focus is fun and development.
How are teams formed?
- MiniRoos: formed based on age, friendship requests and balancing numbers.
- U12–U18: formed via grading to create balanced, fair teams for competition.
Does my child need to attend grading?
Yes — grading is required for U12 to U18.
